GESTUZ autumn winter 2021 collection at CPHFW

a talk with the creative director

Chocolate coloured leather, masculine suits and a more mature take on the winter wardrobe; Creative director Sanne Sehested was inspired by warmth, strength and the power of grown women when designing the new AW2021 collection. We sat down with her to discuss the collection that GESTUZ is showing at CPHFW.

“We in the fashion industry are notorious for praising the young woman. And she absolutely deserves that praise. But for this collection, I looked a little more towards another age group and was inspired by the women around me who have been around the block a few times. It’s not about a specific age, but rather a feeling and power in her way of dressing. She knows what she likes and isn’t afraid to demand it.”

Sehested wanted to create a collection that interprets that power and security in sartorial form. For everyone to wear. No matter their age.

“My idea of sexiness has changed over time, and I wanted to showcase that through these designs.”

Different shades of brown dominate the collection and are used for tone in tone looks, with an idea to wear brown as you would wear black. Splashes of bright blue and dark green are brought to the collection creating contrast. Leather, androgynous suits and a new take on the winter wardrobe shows that Sehested was inspired by the power of the 90’s women.

GESTUZ continues the work towards increasing the use of more sustainable materials. The AW21 collection is made with a minimum of 75% more sustainable materials such as organic cotton, Tencel, EcoVero viscose, recycled wool and other. Additionally, the collection contains the first Gestuz pieces made of recycled silk.
